Skills summary
In my current role as an architectural technologist with Biggs Talbot Architects, I have developed a more wide and varied skill base. I am responsible for the production of drawings from initial survey and design feasibility, through Planning and Building Regulations approval, to construction detailing. Other roles that I have within the practice involve Contract Administration, the preparation of Health and Safety Files to the Isle of Wight Council’s requirements, and some general office administration. The type of project that I am involved with is equally varied, ranging from new build dwellings and barn conversions, preservation and adaptation of historic and ecclesiastical buildings, to projects for the Isle of Wight Council. I am familiar with the online planning application system and the production of the documentation required for this process.
I am also undertaking a Part Time degree in Architectural Technology at Southampton Solent University to gain current qualifications.
I was engaged in a part time capacity as a Contract Draughtsman, working as required for 1st Saxon-Clenmay Ltd. My role involved the production of Mechanical and Electrical As Built drawings from Consultants’ drawings modified during construction by my Client. I was also responsible for the final presentation of drawings in both hard copy and electronic formats.
In my position as IT Tutor at Community Solutions, a major part of my role was the delivery, examination & administration of learners seeking to achieve the ECDL & New CLAIT qualifications. I also helped learners work towards National Test Levels 1 & 2 in Adult Literacy & Numeracy using LearnDirect online.
Prior to moving to the Isle of Wight I worked for Caledonian Building Systems, based in Nottinghamshire. My role was that of Senior Design Engineer & Drawing Office Manager. My main responsibilities were the design of pre-engineered modular buildings; particularly secure accommodation for the Prison Service, hotels, military accommodation & educational establishments ranging from classroom blocks to university living accommodation. I was also responsible for 8 staff including overseeing the training of apprentices. I am familiar with AutoCad releases 11, 12, 13, 14, 2000 and the AutoCad Architectural packages that run in conjunction with releases 14 & 2000.
Prior to working for Caledonian, I had many years design experience in the building industry ranging from portable accommodation to domestic extensions, working both with computers and on a drawing board.
I am able to write & deliver bespoke workshops covering all aspects of the practical use of Computers in the workplace & in everyday life.
I have excellent communication skills having worked with people from all backgrounds & skill levels.
